Cabinets: New, Painted or Refaced
Cabinets wear out in different ways: the finish chips, the doors look dated, or the boxes themselves are damaged or laid out badly. We install new cabinets, and we paint or reface existing ones. Here's how to tell which makes sense.

Three ways to change your cabinets
Painting
Your existing doors, drawer fronts and frames, cleaned, sanded, primed and painted. The layout stays the same.
Refacing
New doors and drawer fronts, with the visible cabinet frames covered to match. The boxes and the layout stay.
New cabinets
The old cabinets come out and new ones go in: the time to change the layout or add storage.
When painting or refacing makes sense
If the boxes are solid and you're happy with the layout, a new finish or new fronts can change the room, usually for less than new cabinets and with less upheaval.
- The cabinet boxes are sound, with no water damage or sagging shelves
- You like where everything is and don't need more storage
- You'd like a new color, or a more up-to-date door style
When new cabinets are the better choice
New cabinets make sense when the boxes are damaged or the layout doesn't work for you.
- Swollen or stained boxes, often under the sink, from an old leak
- Doors and drawers that no longer close or line up
- A layout you want to change, or storage you're short of
- A kitchen or bathroom remodel where everything else is changing too
A painted finish that lasts
Cabinets are handled every day, so paint on them has to grip well. A lasting finish depends on the preparation: grease and grime cleaned off, surfaces sanded and primed, then the paint. Ask us how long the finish needs before the cabinets are back in normal use.
Painting servicesCommon questions
Which option costs the least?
Painting usually costs the least, then refacing, then new cabinets, but it depends on the size of the room and what you choose. We'll price the options once we've seen the cabinets.
Do you work on bathroom cabinets and vanities too?
Yes. Bathroom cabinets can be painted, refaced or replaced like kitchen ones, and new vanities are part of our bathroom work.
Do I need to empty the cabinets?
Yes, for painting, refacing or replacement. We'll tell you when they need to be empty, and for how long.
